Two of our volunteer teachers, Crista Hazell and Lisa Jane Ashes, are at the SOS Children Village’s schools in Ghana. The education specialists delivered teacher training and school management advice as requested by our partners, SOS Children Village.

Part of the work provided by WWEP to improve education for those most in need, Lisa and Crista worked across 5 schools to support teachers and leaders in providing a high quality education to children who may otherwise have nothing.

The placement is specifically aimed at Training of Trainers (ToT) to support the teachers across the SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools for training towards joining SOS Children Village’s Quality Education Programme. This programme aims to train teachers from community schools across Ghana.

Schools involved in the training are:

  1. SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Tema – 38 teachers (Fred Ampoh – Head of School)
  2. SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Asiakwa – 30 teachers (Felix Kyeremah – Head of School)
  3. SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Kumasi – 31 teachers (Stephenson Avotri – Head of School)
  4. SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Tamale – 31 teachers (Daniel Baani – Head of School)
  5. Zuozugu Community School – 12 teachers

The main topics of support required is:

Crista and Lisa also aim to raise £2000 before they go to fund a container of supplies that could create a learning space for 300+ children. Realising that over one million orphaned children in Ghana are in need of an education to get themselves out of poverty, this is only scratching the surface of what is needed.
